When I'm booting the x86-installation CD with my new
ASUS P5VD2-MX Board I cannot see my harddisks.
2 SATA 160GB, JMicron off, SATA Controller in IDE mode.

dmesg | grep drive -> hda is my DVD
dmesg | grep scsi -> nothing

Thes same problem with ubuntu live & knoppix, in
Windoof XP there is no problem.

Thanks for any help, fred

Boot the cd, then look at the output of cat /proc/partitions

OK!

cat /proc/patitions
major minor #blocks name
7 0 49080 loop0

cat /proc/version
.. 2.6.17-gentoo-r7 ... gcc 4.1.1 ... Sep. 18 ..

But there is no HDD / Controller in dmesg. What to see
in /proc/partitions?

Thanks for any help, fred

Thanx all helpers!

Kernel 2.6.17-r7 does'nt support VIA8237A. Just boot
kororaa 0.3 (or something like this) an install Gentoo
( 2.6.17-release8 ) ;-)

What drivers did you use for

1) Sound,
2) Videop Card?

My sound doesn't work and using "via" as the driver in xorg.conf results in X not starting.
