Hi,

Just wondering...whats the difference (for the everday user) between:

1. Emerge (Gentoo)
2. Urpmi (Mandrake)
3. Apt (Debian)
4. Ports (*BSD)

As it seems that all solutions handles dependancies and stuff...all single command installations.

Why's one better than the other?

I use emerge instead of apt beause portage has som much more new stuff than debian, and those new program actually work (i installed gnome 2 for debian from experimental and it simply didnt work 100% , while building it in gentoo produced a nice working gnome desktop)

when I used urpmi some time ago it was crap, maybe it does work today..

I had the same experience with debian... apt is good, but gentoo is so much more up to date.
