|
|
I'm getting some odd happenings on boot.
I'm using a Dell Inspiron E1505
Core Duo T2300 1.66
2gb DDR PC5300
40gb SATA
Integrated Intel graphics:
Quote: | 00:02.1 Display controller: Intel Corporation Mobile 945GM/GMS/940GML Express Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 03) |
I don't get the splash image on boot. It works, because I can use the arrow keys and select an OS, but the image isn't there.
Also, I get garbled text on boot, until it changes the font (Around lo starting). I added a vga=ask to my grub.conf, and I can select the proper font, but that stalls the boot and is frustrating.
Any ideas out there? |

OK. I just checked here:

And turned everything framebuffer off in the kernel. I also took out the 'vga=xxx' out of the grub.conf.
Now what? |

ANYONE!?
I rebooted ALOT today and finally saw that it becomes readable when it sets the terminal encoding to UTF-8.
So, I ran make menuconfig and file systems, native encondig and it was set to western europe. So, I changed it so that only UTF-8 was selected, and remade, and still no good.
What now?
I still can't see the grub screen!
PLEASE help! |

Well I don't know if this helps you I had a similar Problem with another Inspiron.
The Display went dark short after showing grub (splashimage won't work, so I disabled it).
The Solution was:
--DeviceDrivers
--GraphicsSupport
*Support for frame buffer devices
*Enable Video Mode Handling helpers
Disable anything else!
Don't know if it was the same Problem but you may give it a try |

Linux is all set up on my new inspiron e1505. First of all, did you ever sort out your problems? I had no problems getting the grub screen to show. Fonts on bootup show just fine. I did have two randomly colored squares at the top of the screen where the two linux penguins (one for each processor) are but that was fixed by turning off the high color penguin logo in the kernel config and settling with only the 16 color one. I haven't even bothered trying to get bootsplash set up yet. But I can say that all the other hardware works almost perfectly minus the dell wireless card and sony memory stick reading ability.
Good luck and please post any updates. |

Different problem but related. If I try to use a splash bootup it will be all distorted colors. Doesn't matter what color depth I use. Oh well. I'll search around a little for any possible fixes. |
