I've had NFS running on a box sharing my home directory for quite some time. I recently upgraded the nfs server to gentoo and I am experiencing problems. I am sure it is my error and not gentoo, let me express that now.
Problem:
Nfs mount options (rw,rsize=8192,wsize=8192,timeo=10)
If I write a file it copies just fine with good speed. But simultaneous requests to the same mount do not complete until the initial request has finished. I have tried kernel versions 2.4.18-2.4.20 on the server. I am fairly competent at compiling my kernel and I do not feel this is the issue.
The client pc is running 2.5.68-mm2 which worked fine to mount it from the previous nfs server ( redhat 8 ). The current server is running vanilla 2.4.20 and has the latest stable glibc nfs-utils and gcc.
Please advise |

I know my original post is kinda vague but I am not at the server and I was hoping to post and get some suggestions. |

I am going to try downgrading my kernel on the client. I wish someone had some insight or suggestions here. |

Okay. I have generally been very happy with the 2.5 kernel. Today I discovered that when copying large files to NFS it totally blocks other IO to that nfs mount. I have not found away around this and it exists from 2.5.51 (lowest i've tried) all the way to 2.5.68mm3. Just thought I'd post my experiences. I am going to revert to the 2.4.20 ck6 auto regulating vm patchset. |
