|
|
Hi All, new to gentoo.
I have installed the stage 3 tarball from the liveCD, but I am unable to get X server working - it chokes on the 'GLcore' module. My first plan of attack will be to set up my NVIDIA graphics card according to the Gentoo Linux nVidia guide.
My question is this - is it possible to look at the current kernel configuration without actually compiling a new one? I would like to compile my own kernel eventually, but I would like to get a basic system up and running first.
Thanks

silverblue,
Welcome to Gentoo.
Stage 3 does not include Xorg, so you must have done quite a bit more than just the stage 3 install.
If you used the liveCD kernel, its config can be read at /proc/config.gz. However its a fully modular one size fits all kernel.
When you make your own kernel, its a very bad place to start.
What command fails?
What error message do you get ? _________________ Regards,

Thanks Neddy!
Unfortunately the computer is at home and I am at work right now, but the message that I got was:
Code: |
dlopen: /usr/lib/xorg/modules/extensions/libGLcore.so: undefined symbol: __glXLastContext
(EE) Failed to load /usr/lib/xorg/modules/extensions/libGLcore.so
(II) UnloadModule: "GLcore"
(EE) Failed to load module "GLcore" (loader failed, 7)
|
But from what I gather, I should be using the nVidia GLX libraries instead of the GLcore modules anyway (right?), which is covered under the nVidia guide... so I hope that will solve the problem. _________________ ---------

silverblue,
Run In the USE section, is opengl present ?
If not, edit /etc/make.conf, add it to your USE= there, then runso it takes effect. _________________ Regards,
