What is the best way to mass mail people (ie monthly newsletter).
Would it be mailman? Becuase that seems more like bulletin board, everyone can email the list kinda of thing.
I want to be able to send a mail out to a list of people.
However, I would like to have subscribe and unsubscribe features automaticaly since it would be technicaly illegal to mass mail people without it.

Mailman would do the trick nicely. I have a very similar situation to yours, I used to send a weekly mailing to a small group of subscribers. All you need to do is set the moderation bit for all subscribers except yourself (and whomever else you allow to post to the list). If any moderated subscriber posts to the list, their posting goes into a request queue. The list administrator or moderator(s), i.e., you, simply sign in to the list admin page as often as needed and delete all the pending requests.

You can also add addresses to "Discard" or "Reject" filters, which I believe even eliminates the need to moderate posts from such addresses.
