|
|
I've got a samba server running at work. We've got around 15 users and each has access to different files/folders on the server but over time they will gain/lose access to certain things. All of the workstations are running windows and I'm the only one who is knowledgable in Linux. At various points my boss would like to be able to change permissions on certain files without me present. If he has full control (777) over a file/folder on a samba share, is there a way for him, from Windows, to add/remove user permissions? If not is there some suggestion as to how to deal with this situation (other than me SSHing into the machine as needed)? |

Thanks, I'm checking it out now. I'm a bit concerned that it will be too complicated OR it will give too much control over the system. The files/dirs that will need to be modified are in /home/shares and I'd prefer if these were the only ones that anyone else is able to modify. |

Webmin allows you to creates different users (powerusers) to access specific tasks Maybe it'll be just the thing. |

I've installed webmin, it looks like it will do the trick using the file manager. Hopefully I can get him to only use the ACL button, heh. Thanks a lot for the help. |

If you have a windows domain, with either a windows or a samba domain controller, you can set acls from the window explorer gui same as you would on a windows server. You just need to setup winbind on your samba server and make sure your samba and filesystem support acls. |
