|
|
I'm getting a freeze with ktorrent that takes my whole system down with it I tried many things myself, then searched around on these forums(unsuccessfully) and google. I ran into a thread on (surprisingly enough) ktorrent forums and posted in it:
KTorrent Forums thread
There is detail about the problem in the thread (my posts are at the end), but the gist of it goes as follows. Ktorrent freezes after a seemingly random amount of time. When it does I get like 2 seconds to do anything before it freezes my system completely. The only thing I can do at that point is reboot. Tried many different versions (2.02, 2.03, and 2.1dev) with identical results each time.
I figured I'd post in these forums as well since Gentoo Forums are far more active (and generally far more helpful).

hi there.
I have read the thread you have pointed out, and I have a question.
"the whole system freezes"
Can you check whether its the KDE which is frozen, or X, or actually the whole system(kernel)
if you have magic key enabled in your kernel, you might want to check that works or not even with the frozen system.
if it's the kernel problem, I suspect a kernel panic there and I would upgrade the kernel or try with different configs.
cheers, _________________ "Being defeated is often a temporary condition. Giving up is what makes it permanent" - Marilyn vos Savant

It seems to take the whole system down. I can Ctrl+Alt+F1 out of X, but that's about it. I can't even login or run anything at that point. The only thing I can do is Ctrl+Alt+Del to reboot (sometimes even that doesn't work and I have to hit the Reset button). I'm going to try running ktorrent with gdb to see if it gives me any useful info. I've had this with 2 different kernel versions. |

The problem turned out the be Adaptive File Readahead in the kernel config. I disabled that feature and rebuilt the kernel. KTorrent has been running without a hitch for 12 hours straight. |

Ever since I upgraded ktorrent to 2.1_rc1 from 2.1_beta1 I've been experiencing out of memory issues.

Anybody else have this problem or is this what you were referring to sirdilznik?
If so, where did you disable the readahead feature? Thanks. |
