Hy,
I used KDE on my Notebook, Im not realy pleased with it: It useses much ram, and the worst of all: It writes to my harddisk without doing anything what prevents my harddisk from falling into suspend mode. So I looked for alternatives and found xfce. Its just the thing I searched for except one thing:

I realy liked the Konsole of KDE because of its Hotkeysupport (Hotkeys are first handled by Konsole and if there was no action send to the terminal), because of its tab-support and because of its clipboard integration. All these things Im missing at the standart xterm of XFCE. I tried out rxvt which supplied non of these features and I tried mrxvt. This seems closer to Konsole than all other terminals but I got the following problems:

1. I some applications (Like VIM) Hotkeys like Shift+Left are not working because vim handles them
2. It doesnt integrate very good into xfce: The look is completly different and ugly
3. It doesnt support the GTK Clipboardcommands, so there is no copy and paste but only this middle mouse button which I dont like
4. The Buffer is much to small: When I use Shift+Page up to scroll I dont get enough lines. I dont know how to change this

Does anybody know a alternative application for konsole? I dont want to use konsole because it pulls up ked and other kde tools and the harddiscproblem will continue.

Thanks

I use terminal, that comes with xfce. Not sure about hotkeys, but it has tabs, true transparency (if you use the latests svn), seems to support using Shift+Insert to paste something (can't remember copy), and has lots of lines to go back to.

I think you should give it another try.

Hy,
no, sorry, but thats not working, nothing happens if I press this keys. Are you sure you got the "normal" xfce terminal? Because this Terminal is only a xterm which doesnt tabs imho. Could you please tell me which additional Software I have to install?

Thanks

if you want the true transparency, xfce-extra/terminal-9999

get's it from svn, which is the xfce I suggest you use anyways.

Your hard drive problem is probably caused by hal, which by default polls devices every two seconds. The constant polling of devices is atrocious behavior, and I would suggest disabling the pseudo HAL (see whether "hald" is in your boot or default runlevel) until a real HAL is available. Alternatively, the probing of individual device classes can be disabled if you want need it for some devices (e.g., USB storage). I don't know offhand where such settings are configured but that should be easy enough to find.

I like the terminal emulator for XFCE4 ("Terminal") much more than konsole, the latter of which has a convoluted method for setting foreground and background colors. However, Terminal is not installed by default with the xfce-base packages; it is part of xfce-extra, so you must either install the xfce-etra meta package or separately install xfce-extra/terminal. There is is a terminal emulator that is installed as part of xfce-base, but that is not Terminal.

You surely started xfterm4l, which only stats the "preferred" terminal (chosen in the xfce options).

You need to emerge xfce-extra/terminal and start it with terminal :)
