If audacious does not support a format that you need, please reply here. It will be ported from XMMS and included the next release of audacious-plugins (1.2.3).

If the plugin is binary or depends on binary bits (non-free), do not bother requesting it, as we cannot port it.
If the plugin is legally encumbered (e.g. non-OSI compatible license), the answer is no as well.

We have already done these plugins: wavpack, xmms-alarm (in progress)

Additionally, if you want a general/vis/output/effect plugin ported, please say so. We may be able to do it.

Help us help you.

Please note that this is PLUGIN-RELATED ONLY. I DO NOT WANT TO HEAR ABOUT DOUBLE-SIZE OR ANY OF THAT HERE. Your cooperation is appreciated.

How about shorten? I've got a number of sets of tunes in that format, and they were the only reason I wanted to keep xmms around...

I would love to see media-plugins/xmms-finespectrum ported to audacious. Homepage: http://www.sourceforge.net/projects/finespectrum/

I've mentioned it already in another thread here before I see this topic.
Quote:
I like xmms-finespectrum very much. URL: http://sourceforge.net/projects/finespectrum/

It seems unmaintained, but it works nice even under Gentoo Hardened, there is an ebuild in Gentoo Portage (stable before masking due to the masking of xmms) and it is GPL'ed. Almost all other visualisation plugins are not suitable for a hardened desktop setup (e.g. needing an executable stack, etc.) or are consuming too many ressources (or are boring me over the time).

I'm not a coder and I know nothing about the differences between the plugin interfaces of audacious and xmms, but I think this nice little plugin is easy to port for an experienced programmer. What can I say more to advertise the porting of Fine Spectrum Analyzer Plugin? Pleeeeeease... :)
(BTW: I had some more questions regarding audacious in the other post).

Is it possible to split the plugins to different ebuilds (as with media-plugins/xmms-*) so that everyone could install *only* the plugins he/she likes to have installed?

audacious-plugins uses USE flags to select which plugins to install.

I will port finespectrum, though. No problem.

We're working on an audacious-community-plugins which will include this, and several other XMMS plugin ports.

I don't know if it is possible, but supporting Audible .aa files would be awesome. Currently I need to boot vmware and convert it using Goldwave or DBPowerAmp. There may be DRM issues, but if GW and DBPA can do it then it must be possible.

http://nedudu.hu/static.php?page=audacious

but i can't get it to compile otherwise i really enjoy using audacious the sound quality seems to be better than XMMS.

You don't really need a plugin for such things.. Your DE and/or a program like lineakd can handle it.

Hi all,

xmms has 2 mplayer input plugins that I really need to switch to audacious. There was a first port of one of them (audacious-mplayer) but it doesn't work anymore probably due to a change in API and the site where I got it isn't accessible anymore. It would be great if you could adapt it or make another as you want.
If you don't have this plugin, I can upload it with the ebuild too.

Thanks in advance

Code:
simon@gentoo ~/Desktop $ emerge audacious-itouch -av

These are the packages that would be merged, in order:

Calculating dependencies
emerge: there are no ebuilds to satisfy "audacious-itouch".

Do i need an overlay to install this ebuild?

Is audacious supposed to support AAC+ streams? I have aac enabled but it seems that AAC+ stream just keep re-buffering. Thanks!

Never mind. I see from the audacious boards that it's not implimented yet. Since XMMS didn't support them either, I'm prtty much used to just using vlc for those anyway.

There is a version of audacious-mplayer on the audacious boards -

My biggest issue with it right now is the lack of the alarm plugin and that after I select a song from the open dialog it does not play automatically. This happens even when no song is being played. Its really starting to bug me :\

The alarm plugin can be obtained here -

http://people.atheme.org/~nenolod/audacious/plugins/audalarm-1.0.1.tgz

As for the second issue, you'd do better to complain in the audacious forum or the bugtracker since the Audacious devs actually read that.

The AAC plugin will never support streams.

There's many reasons for this, the main one being that Shoutcast has a tendency to lie and say the stream is MP3 when it isn't. Audacious 1.x's design doesn't handle that well.

That's odd. I would suggest nuking your audacious configuration, as it shouldn't be doing that.

Sorry to hear this. Isn't it possible to steal some code from VLC and include it in Audacious? I am saying it as a user not a programmer, but it seems to me that if it is possible to write the code capable of stealing elections using Diebold voting machines that noone would notice http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JEzY2tnwExs (just to prove my point) than it is even more possible to port opensource program capabilities to onother program. I kindly ask for reconsidering writitng it and I am sure others would welcome it as well.

I need plugins to play Monkey audio (.ape) and Shorten (.shn).
It would also be useful a plugin to play .cue sheets directly.

Keep up the good work!

The only thing from xmms that I'm missing right now is xmms-joystick. It was very nice to control the player with my gamepad.
