You mean you think it's taking too long, so you guess there is something wrong? Kde-base includes a lot of packages and Gentoo doesn't use binaries; everything is compiled from source and that may take quite a while. Of course it depends on your hardware, but even a (very) new computer would need a bit more than 30 minutes I think.
Just wait a couple of hours. You could tell us what hardware you are using, so someone might be able to give you an indication as to how long you'll have to wait. |

To give you some idea of how long kde can take to compile and install, I generally kick it off before I go to bed and check it in the morning.
Xorg
kde/gnome (depending on options chosen, more options the longer it takes)
Openoffice
all take a good couple hours (or more) to compile and install, even for fast PCs with lots of RAM.

Pretty old stats by now, but to give you some idea on how long stuff may take to compile, take a look at the FAQ UN3: How long does it take to install Gentoo? There's a limited set of binaries available on the InstallCD, but kde is not one of them. _________________ Please read our FAQ Forum, it answers many of your questions.

It'll tell you if it fails.
You could also look at the log, it should show up there. |

Open a new terminal and run top. If you see high CPU usage from e.g. emerge, configure or cc(1), your installation is progressing nicely. _________________ Please read our FAQ Forum, it answers many of your questions.

That's another problem with this graphical installer. You don't really see what it's doing... _________________ "Those who deny freedom to others deserve it not for themselves." - Abraham Lincoln

It's still an installer, same thing applies. The old and trusted method of manual install is better - and it's easier for us to help you with that. _________________ "Those who deny freedom to others deserve it not for themselves." - Abraham Lincoln
