|
|
I just got back home and am trying to use my gentoo box.
Unfortunately, there was a power failure during the summer, and the filesystems got unmounted cleanly.
Now, whenever I use the network for a few minutes, the connection dies. I can't even ping local machines on my network.
How can I troubleshoot it? Is there a network ebuild that I can re-emerge in case some file was corrupted?
The network works fine from my windows machine. |

Do your log files say anything after the connection gets lost? dmesg? Which kernel? Which network card? _________________ Hello 911? How are you? |

post some infos like
> lspci | grep Eth
> ifconfig -a
> rc-status | grep eth
perhaps this could help to show the current status |

Ugh. My system is really screwed.
If I try to '/etc/init.d/net.eth0' it hangs on "Unmounting network filesystems".
If I try to reboot, it hangs.
If I try to do 'sync ; sync' it hangs.
This is only after the network stops. If I reboot before the network gets a chance to die, it reboots fine.
Here's my dmesg output:
If you need answers to the other questions let me know. It's just a big pain for me to copy text from the machine, so I don't want to do it gratuitously.

Has anyone found a fix for this? It used to hang once or twice a month, but it's now hanging once or twice a day after switching from an amd64 3000 to an opteron 165. Noapic and nolapic seems to help. I tried noacpi, but it caused sata controller to hang...
