|
|
Hi folks,
after the last upgrade of kaffeine I was not able to start kaffeine as normal user anymore.
When started as root, everything is allright and kaffeine works like expected.
When called as a normal user, who belongs to the groups audio, video and cdrom/cdrw, kaffeine does not produce ANY output at all.
I even called it in verbose mode, but still not one word... ...it exits immediately.
Some ideas?
many thanks in advance,
yours Henri

I am having the same issue, after poking around some I *think* it has something to do with dcop and ~/.ICEathority.
If I remove ~/.ICEathority and ~/.DCOPserver_<myhostname>__0 then I can start kaffeine, but this fix goes away when I restart KDE.
Any help would be greatly appreciated |

Hi Insomnium,
unfortunately your hint didn't work for me.
Please, if someone else reads this and has only a slight idea how to solve this problem, please drop us a line.
Many thanks in advance, yours Henri |

Just out of curiousity, were you running compiz when this started happening? Mine stoped working right after I quit kaffeine while running compiz. |

Hi again,
no, I didn't ran compiz, but it may be that I changed the opengl versions before this happened, but as I said: It may be.
Could you finally solve the problem?
Unfortunately I couldn't. Updating to KDE 3.5.5 also didn't change anything.
And still I have no clue what really happened

Yeah, I upgraded to KDE 3.5.5 and it did nothing for me. I have this issue on two seperate machines and I have no idea what is going on.
It's very frustrating |

Hi Erdie,
no, none at all! It seams to do absolutely nothing.
And: This is the only KDE-application which behaves like described.
Starting it as root works like it should.
Do you have some hints/ideas?
Many thanks in advance,
yours Henri |

Nope, no output at all. I can post the output of strace or gdb If someone thinks it would help, it is mostly greek to me. |

Hi again,
yeessss, it works again!
If you understand german, here's the explanation and solution:
http://www.linux-club.de/viewtopic.php?p=407265
If not, let me explain in a few english words:
It happens when kaffeine was not closed correctly when the kde-session is closed.
The error seems to occur when (at the next kde-session-start) kde tries to re-open all programs left open when the last kde-session was closed.
Solution:
# ps -ef | grep kaffeine
Now kill all instances found.
Now it works again!
