Hey all,
I'm having a problem with my Inspiron 8500 series laptop. I recently enabled Dell Laptop support which enabled the i8k module, but since then, whenever I boot up and start kde I get the kmix volume level indicator pop up on my screen, stuck at 0%. Its as if im pressing and holing the volume down key on my keyboard. When this happens I cant get any other application to come up on top of it, so i pretty much cant do anything. If I kill the kmix aplication which is also sitting active in the taskbar, it launches again right away. The only workaround I have found right now is to disable the i8k module by taking dell laptop support out of my kernel confguration.
Has anyone experienced this, and what can I do? If its a problem wtih keymapping, which i think it is, im not sure where to go. I read some tutorials mentioning xmodmap (or something like that), but I didnt have the configuration file they mentioned so I dont think thats the problem.
Any help would be greatly appreciated! |

Well apparantly the solution was to disable the kmilo service from within the kde control centre, but this of course disabled all of my media keys. I was hoping someone might have an idea about how to resolve this issue without disabling the multimedia keys on the laptop.
