1) What do I have to enable in my kernel for my computer to recognize an external hard drive (Western Digital Passport)?

2) When I try to modprobe ipw3945
I get this error message
WARNING: Error inserting ieee80211 (/lib/modules/2.6.17-gentoo-r8/net/ieee80211/ieee80211.ko): Unknown symbol in module, or unknown parameter (see dmesg)
FATAL: Error inserting ipw3945 (/lib/modules/2.6.17-gentoo-r8/net/wireless/ipw3945.ko): Unknown symbol in module, or unknown parameter (see dmesg)
How do I modprobe without an error message?

3) How do I change the overall font size in KDE? I changed the system fonts, but in select programs, the font remains small. It's a strain on my eyes considering my resolution is 1920x1200.

4) Printer Support?

5) The best program around for my TV tuner?

Hope these questions aren't too difficult... If you only know the answer to one or two, please answer them with the corresponding question number.

THANKS A LOT!

BTW GENTOO ROCKS>> JUST GOT KDE UP AND RUNNING !

IIRC, something along the lines of USB mass storage. I can't really remember the exact name, but this should work with usb sticks, cameras and external hard drives. (I may be wrong though, but you can give it a try)

Could you post the dmesg outpout? (Just issue "dmesg" as root)

Are these gnome apps? They don't really play along well yet (at least for me). Perhaps try emerging the gnome control center and setup the fonts there, too.

4) Printer Support?

CUPS, Gimp-Print (net-print/cups and media-gfx/gimp-print). CUPS is the printing system and gimp-print a collection of drivers. If your printer isn't supported by these try to search the internet or post the model here.

Don't know about the best but there is MythTV, kdetv (I don't really like it, but that's a matter of taste). Tried none of these for a long time, but you can try them, perhaps you like one :D

Moved from Installing Gentoo to Other Things Gentoo. Not installation and didn't fit any other category, so moved here.

Enable all of these, and recompile and reinstall your kernel. Then reboot:

1.- SCSI device support
2.- SCSI disk support
3.- USB (ohci, uhci and, probably, ehci for usb 2.0)
4.- USB mass storage support

They all are under de device drivers section in menuconfig.

How do I modprobe without an error message?

First, did you compile the modules against the current running kernel sources? uname -r will tell you the version of the kernel you are running. If you are not sure, make sure that the /usr/src/linux symlink points to the correct source tree, then recompile (reemerge) those modules. And try to modprobe them. In any case, if you cant fix them, look what is their output in dmesg as suggested above. Just do "dmesg" after the modprobe errors.

Those are probably gtk programs, and, as such, not aware of the kde settings. You can change that in the gnome control panel, or install gtk-engines-qt, wich adds a module in kcontrol to change the gtk programs fonts and style. If that does not work, please, tell us which programs are those that are bothering you.

This probably mean one of these two things:

1.- Maybe you compiled the modules for another kernel and you are trying to load them in a new one, not probable.
2.- Maybe you compiled the modules with any version of gcc that is different from the one that you used to compile your kernel.

In both cases, the solution is to recompile the kernel and the modules, so you are sure that they are in sync.

As for tv support, tvtime is the best as long as your not talking a tv card that has a built in hardware decoder like Hauppauge cards. (outputs mpeg2 streams, not YUV)
