This is a very strange problem, no one can seem to answer it.
Partitioning:
/dev/ida/c0d0p1 /boot ext3
/dev/ida/c0d0p2 swap
/dev/ida/c0d0p3 / ext3
I'm running on a Compaq Proliant 1600 with a Compaq Smart Array RAID5. SMART2 and such drivers built into kernel, using an altered genkernel (genkernel --menuconfig all)
the initramfs boots, but once it starts to load the kernel, it fails saying that /dev/ida/c0d0p3 is not a valid root device.
so I did 'shell' to get the basic busybox shell... an 'ls' of /dev reveals /dev/ida!c0d0[1,2,and 3]
what on earth wouild cause the devices to show up as ida!c0d0pX?
if I tell it boot device /dev/ida!c0d0p3 when it fails on the root device, it boots okay... once the system comes up, the correct devices exits in /dev/ida/c0d0pX
Is this a big in initramfs/genkernel or what? _________________ I contest that we are both Atheists. I just believe in one fewer god than you do. Once you understand why you dismiss all other possible gods, you'll understand why I dismiss yours. |
