|
|
I receive a lot of email on the standard email aliases on my system.
Can I just delete the aliases in the section "General redirections ..." and the section "Standard RFC2142 aliases" preventing spam of is there a reason to keep these aliases?
Furthermore there is a alias called decode should I enable it? and is there a process that sends mail to this alias?
Are there any other tips and tricks apart from installing the spam filter as described in: Quote: | http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/mailfilter-guide.xml |
These are the aliases I reffer to that van be found in /etc/mail/aliases Code: |
These are the # Basic system aliases -- these MUST be present.
MAILER-DAEMON: postmaster
postmaster: root
# General redirections for pseudo accounts.
adm: root

# Well-known aliases -- these should be filled in!

The reason for keeping them would be to remain RFC compliant. That's your call. If you run a mailserver then it's only polite to keep postmaster open. You could drop webmaster if you don't run such a server, for example.
You can't be on the net in 2006 and not run some anti-UCE measures. |

I've disabled these RFC2142 mail accounts and I havent noticed anything that goes wrong.
Only the amount of spam that can be delivered succesfully drops dramatically! |
