What command can I use to see the history of my emerge's? I think I updated sshd a few weeks ago and it might have broken an eclipse instance.

thanks,
James

The log file is in /var/log/emerge.log by default. You can use a program such as genlop to parse it and display it in a nice colored output format:
Code:
# emerge app-portage/genlop
# genlop -l
Check its documentation (`genlop --help` or `man genlop`) for more information.

I'm not sure if this is the right place, but it deals with installation, and I'm sorry if this is a repeat, I just don't know what exactly to search for. Anyways, I was wondering if there is a way to create a list of packages installed from a certain point in time that will allow you to easily go back and start over. For example, I was planning on installing Compiz, but I've had some problems in the past, so if it didn't work, I wanted to be able to remove everything and start over again with a basic GNOME install. Is there an automated way to do this, or will I just have to echo each "emerge --pretend blahblah" to a log file?

Thanks for any and all help!
