The card I am using is a radeon x1900xtx
I dont know how to copy the log file off my desktop computer (im posting this on my laptop)
One of my original errors involed a message similar to "Module ati not found"
used fglrx instead and now it starts up the screen goes black but doesnt go into standby or inactive and the hard drive LED stays on, but it responds to CTRL ALT DEL and reboots fine.
any ideas? could someone also shoot some advice on getting my log file posted? |

thanks for the link i just tried it, but now i have new problems, for some reason xorg is not detecting my video card as having enough memory
this is next to every resolution it tries to use
(insufficient memory for mode)
this shows up as well
(WW) VGA(0): Mode pool is empty
after trying to emerge ati-drivers and use fglrx in xorg i get this error as well.
(WW) Warning, couldn't open module fglrx
(EE) Failed to load module "fglrx" (module does not exist, 0)
just a side note: I am using modular X |

whats your status?
maybe is this a kernel issue, but most probably a config issue.
if it does not work try the open source ati drivers; search |

hey, thanks, need to put solved in the title, i scratched that problem. It had to do with my kernel configuration something with DRI support i think.
I do have a new problem though, i just got the alsa drivers installed for my ca0106 SB live 24bit card, they work....but the sound is randomly choppy and sometimes gets sluggish. |
