HI! Im installing Gentoo on my main computer (im posting this on my secondary computer on which Gentoo is running fine) and I'm running into a bit of a problem.
I followed the AMD64 Handbook to the point where I chroot into the new install:
Code: | chroot /mnt/gentoo /bin/bash |
but i get the following error:
Code: | chroot: cannot run command `/bin/bash': Exec format error |
I followed everything to the letter (twice) and for some reason cant get this to work. I had no issues on my x86 (this computer) but the AMD64 comp doesnt seem to want to play...
I downloaded the current 64 bit stage3 and the portage snapshot, and mounted everything as instructed...
Ive tried using various copies of bash that i can find on the system (live cd and extracted form the stage3) but none of them work.
I dont know what to do. |

The problem is that the environment you are trying to chroot into is 64bit, but the LiveCD you are using only has a 32bit kernel.
You will need a 64bit LiveCD if you want to do a 64bit installation.

I don't know if an upgrade from 32bit to 64bit is possible. I think a fresh installation is your only option. |

thats what i meant. once i get a working system so i can burn a copy of the 64bit live cd then i can do a complete reinstall to the 64 bit arch.
im currently installing the x86 arch now |
