i think the problem is with the subversion_fetch. the URI specified in the ebuild is wrong as the files aren't hosted there anymore.
so what's the new URI?
that's the question _________________ this is a strange strange world. |

Just remove teh svn_src directory in your /usr/portage/distfiles folder. See if this fixes your problem. _________________ default-linux/amd64/2007.0, gcc-4.2.3, glibc-2.7-r2, 2.6.25-hh5 x86_64 |

if we could see the errors you have, would be easier to help you. _________________ this is a strange strange world. |

if you go to that URL you wont find those file.that's why the cannot be fetched.
remove xeffects overlay;
layman -d xeffects
then get the list;
layman -L
then add the overlay
layman -a xeffects
just to be sure remove the svn-src directory in /usr/portage/distfiles;
rm -r /usr/portage/distfiles/svn-src
then;
emerge beryl-settings _________________ this is a strange strange world. |

That sorted me out! I fancied a little experimental action, but couldn't compile untill now.
Cheers,
