no sound?

i think this is in the right place (if its not could a mod/admin please move it)

i know in ubuntu/fedora/windows (i know shame on me) when i boot after install i hear the sample sound and it works

, i guess my point is i dont know how to install my sound drivers/softwhere for my old beatup compaq presario v2000, could someone please help me that has the same laptop or know how to get it working

a computer without sound is just no where near as cool :-\
