Hello, I'm new to linux and have just started installing gentoo. I have been following the handbook for x86
my system is i686, and I'm using the minimal install CD.
So anyways I have a question about the, Tweaking disk performance section in chapter 2 of the handbook. Since I have time on my hands I've been looking at ways to increase hard disk performance on various websites.
So as I was trying things out I tried:
# hdparm -i /dev/hda
which is suppose to send drive info back, it gave me my cd drive back... I thought I was tweaking my hard disk, is this right? |

use fdisk -l to get a list of drives and partitions on your system
you hard drive may be /dev/sda, /dev/hdc, or something like that. _________________ "Mr Thomas Edison has been up on the two previous nights discovering 'a bug' in his phonograph." --Pall Mall Gazette (1889)
