Hi,
I am relatively new to Gentoo and really Linux in general. I have a working knowledge of linux and have successfully installed gentoo on a workstation. I am now building a Gentoo server that I want to act as an internal web server, a file server, print server, and have some sort of directory services. I am a Windows 2003 Administrator (I know its the dark side but it pays the bills).
What I have in my house is two Windows XP workstations (one home, one pro), a Ubuntu workstation, a gentoo workstation, my gentoo server, and another box on the way that will eventually be an external web server (and probably mail server).
Finally, to my actual question. Is there a way to have a central authentication authority on my Gentoo server, similiar to a Domain Controller in Windows? How do I use LDAP services? What kind of resources would I need for the setup (as my "server" is of workstation quality)?
Thanks so much for your help. I want to be all Linux but my wife uses her XP machine and I have my games on my other XP machine.
Thanks! _________________ --

This actually ended up being a DNS issue. I had some DNS servers and they were not resolving any of the sites. THey were resolving yahoo.com and google.com when I tried to ping. I switched to some new DNS servers and it worked.
Thanks for all your help and support. _________________ --
