Ok, I'll bite. Why does emerge seem to want to recompile apps fairly regularly. Is it to replace files when two or more apps provide a specific file or something? What gives?

Without providing examples of package that are being emerged often, it is hard to say why. It could simply be that there are often many updates made for the hundreds of packages that you have installed. _________________ www.gentoo.org.au || #gentoo-au |

Ok. Portage seems to want to recompile kdelibs on a regular basis, sometimes it's an upgrade, but mostely it's a recompile. I'm not too bothered about the specific reasons it's happening on my system, but I am curious as to the possible reasons why this occours. I mean, if a package is installed, it's installed right? (I know I'm wrong when I say that, I just want an explenation )
Cheers,

If it recompiles that must be for some reason, most of the time the rebuilds are due to flags. So next time it do that, be sure to post the output of emerge -pv kdelibs. _________________ To mess up a Linux box, you need to work at it; to mess up your

The available flags change from time to time. _________________ Research before taking any advice from me. I'm still coming to grips with this myself. |

I don't know witch flags but well, each time an update rebuilded sth for me it was because of flags.
We can't continue to talk about sth so unspecified.
