I can't seem to get sort to use tab as a field separator. I know this should be fairly simple, but nothing seems to work! I have tried sort -t\t, sort -t"\t", etc. and they either complain about "multi-character tab" or just fail to sort appropriately. I even tried entering CTRL-V,CTRL-T. Any ideas? Thanks!

looks like sort -t$'\t' works. Not sure why.
