Hello there,
i own an old vaio n505ve. intel celeron 333mhz, 128mb ram, 2 mb grafik but upgraded with a 30 gb harddrive. (its the north american model, but i live in germany)
the system runs quiet well unter windows, but i want to use gentoo.
i have the pcmcia cd drive to boot the gentoo live cd. after the keymap selection the booting process stops.
Code: | !! The root block device is unspecifeier or not detected.
Please specifiy a devide to boot, or "shell" for a shell... |
i´ve read several guides, and hints here in this forum like
https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-84397-highlight-n505ve.html
or
http://www.linux-on-laptops.com/sony.html
but nothing worked yet. i disabled plug & play OS in the bios...
on the start up i typed in:
Code: | gentoo ide2=0x180,0x386
or
gentoo ide1=0,180,0x386 |
and i tried to mount hda123 sda123 and so on. i also used the command "dopcmcia" at startup
before the startup process want´s to load the keymap it says
Code: | !! Could not find CD to boot, something else needed! |
the pcmcia cd drive is a pcga-cd51/a
i also tried to start up with the xubunto cd... same problem... won´t start
i´m really a linux noob... don´t be to hard
thanx a lot
