Hi there,
thanks for your answer - yes I'd setup my HP Laserjet 5p in CUPS. And I tried to send a Testsite with CUPS. It says all things are right, but my printer do nothing!? Any idea? Thx!

Just a thought...but hmmm afaik, Laserjet 5 isnt a postscript printer is it? I believe that u should emerge ghostscript if printing to a non-postscript printer...

Be aware, that even if ghostscript was installed before u installed cups, u MUST re-install ghostscript right after the cups-install.

Let us know :)

the hp laserjet 5p is NOT a postscript printer!

check out Foomatic Printer Support Database for HP LaserJet 5P for wich module to use in cups for printing on that printer.

i would recomend to download the recomended driver and then use the web interface of cups to configure that printer:
Code:
wget --output-file=/usr/share/cups/model/HP-LaserJet_5P-ljet4.ppd "http://www.linuxprinting.org/ppd-o-matic.cgi?driver=ljet4&printer=HP-LaserJet_5P&show=0"

or if you want, you could use the printer driver wich is in the portage:
Code:
emerge net-print/hpijs

and then just start cups:
Code:
/etc/init.d/cupsd start

to install the printer, point your browser to http://localhost:631/ and then install your printer (by downloading the ppd file for the hplj5p you should have a new driver for that printer).

cheers
