I have the "lock screen" gnome-panel applet on my Gnome panel. It has stopped working somewhere along the way. It doesn't actually do ANY of the functions, not locking, not activating the screensaver, and not bringing up the xscreensaver-demo app.

I can run xscreensaver-demo at the command line just fine, so I know it's not a problem with not having it installed or it not working.

I've tried recompiling both gnome-applets and xscreensaver a couple of times now. I guess it's not going to be that easy. Anyone else seeing this? I tried searching on this stuff, but found nothing.

Have you tried using gnome-screensaver instead?

AWESOME! That "something" that happened to my system was that I had upgraded to Gnome 2.16 in ~x86. I had backed everything out, or so I had thought. Thanks to your suggestion, I finally saw that I had 2 packages in my system left over from 2.16, gnome-screensaver and gnome-power-manager. I recompiled gnome-screensaver, which fixed it, but after seeing it, I realized that I don't want gnome-screensaver. I removed it, and I'm back to the behavior I wanted: the applet calls xscreensaver-demo!

Thanks!
