maybe this is a lame question, but how can i have a native 32 bits environment in my laptop considering that it is a amd64.
I can't use the minimal cd for x86 cause in the part where we chroot it fails, and if i use the amd64 minimal cd it gives me a 64bit environment.
I need this running 32 bits code cause of a project that i am participating and their aplication isn't very stable so there is no support for 64 bit yet.
thanks for any help |

when i try chroot /mnt/gentoo /bin/bash i get:
chroot: cannot run command /bin/bash: exec format error
I thought that if i booted from tha live cd it would all just go like a nice 32 bit processor but it doesn't seems like that...
i was thinking that maybe i could install gentoo with the amd64 minimal cd, but during instalation i use the instructions in the links you gave me to make a chroot system.
I would much prefer to have a complete 32 bit system than a 64 and then a chroot to 32 bit.
can i do what i am thinking? I suppose i would say that my processor type would be an athlon-xp.. i don't now...
thanks |

Nothing. Just pretend you bought an ordonary 32bit box and follow the x86 handbook. |

If there are issues booting from the x86 livecd, this can be caused by different problems e. g. ACPI. Just try alternative boot parameters. But i should definatly work.
