Hi Guys,
The day before today I ran a remote "emerge --update --deep --world". In order to do this, I had to remove 2 packages:
- kde-env
- esound
because they were blocking other packages from beeing merged.
Now I get funny messages when logging in on any other tty. As soon as I type in the username and hit Enter, I get something like "Warning, Unknown ASTERIKS ..." << Something like that, I'm not @home atm and don't remeber the exact message. Perhaps I can post that later on.
The other issue:
I can boot up my mashine and kdm starts. I get the new nvidia splashscreen and I can see the new Beryl Version running. It all works fine... BUT
as soon as i change my Terminal using CTRL-ALT-F3 * ... and then change back to X (F7) - The X-Session either dies or the Cube still rotates .. but it is white and I can see that the mousepointer changes when I move it arround (e.g. a Hand when floating over a link), but I can't see anything. Theres just nothing in it. So I can't change my TTY without sacrifice Could this have to do with my unmerging kde-env before updating world? kdelibs-3.5.4-r2 was blocked by kde-env-3-r4.
Code: | domestos env.d # emerge -pv kde-env
These are the packages that would be merged, in order:
Calculating dependencies... done!
[blocks B ] >=kde-base/kdelibs-3.5.4-r2 (is blocking kde-base/kde-env-3-r4)
[ebuild N ] kde-base/kde-env-3-r4 0 kB

Since I had to edit the /etc/env.d/99kde-env-file (using the wiki on howto-glx), adding the following:
Code: | KDEDIRS=/usr
CONFIG_PROTECT=/usr/share/config
#KDE_IS_PRELINKED=1
KDEWM=/usr/bin/beryl-manager
|
Or could this have something to do with my new videodrivers?
Code: | domestos ~ # equery list nvidia
[ Searching for package 'nvidia' in all categories among: ]
* installed packages
[I--] [ ~] x11-drivers/nvidia-drivers-1.0.9629 (0)

Or is this a known update-issue? KDE seemed to have a lot of updates... I'm sorry I can't give any more detailed informations right now. I'd be glad if this is a quick one and if not... then details will follow.
Thx anyway! _________________ jjmac wrote: "You must have done that as 'root'. That's another good example of why we do not use our 'root' account unless absolutly neccessary, Buddy!!!!!" |

Thx. Emerge is running now. Let's see if it helps.
Any idea for the other login issue?
