|
|
After testing the new NV driver version 4363 vs the previous version (4349), I have found that Quake3 FPS has decreased significantly across the board.
Test System:
KT7A chipset
Athlon 1200 Mhz Processor
1 GB PC133 RAM
GeForce 3 64 MB (stock)
gaming-sources-r1 kernel
High Quality Settings
Desktop Display Depth of 16
four.dm_68 demo
Results:
NVIDIA 4349 Driver
640x480 137.6
800x600 137.3
1024x768 133.4
1280x1024 118.4
NVIDIA 4363 Driver
640x480 118.3
800x600 116.1
1024x768 110.1
1280x1024 100.4
Note: No, that's not a fluke, the new driver at 640x480 actually performs WORSE than the old driver at 1280x1024!
Obviously, it could easily be something wrong with my own system, and I'll continue to test this. I encourage others to install the new driver and post their results here. _________________ Cthulhu for president. |

OK, but what does this tell us? Have you tested your new kernel setup with the old drivers? The way you present your information leads us to believe you have simply gained performance through a kernel upgrade, which is vastly different from testing the old and new drivers with the same kernel.
Also, it helps if you post some fps numbers (glxgears, etc) at at least one resolution. _________________ Cthulhu for president. |

Only tested mine in glxgears from version to version. I saw about a 30% drop in glxgears speed with the latest driver update. Noticed significantly slower screen updates in one of my xscreensaver programs, so I ran glxgears. Haven't tried going to a different kernel (running xfs-sources 2.4.20-r3 because only other kernel I can get working on my Asus a7n8x deluxe is development-sources 2.5.68, and I have problems with it).

Excellent work.
If no one contests these findings, I'd suggest we ask that the ebuild not be unmasked until NVidia fixes it _________________ Cthulhu for president. |

I haven't noticed any speed decreases... however I haven't done any sort of conclusive testing. I'm too lazy for that I just ran glxgears and saw that I still get ~3500 fps |
