Issues with authdaemonrc [courier-imap]

I am trying to set logging facility to something other than mail, which appears to be the default. However, the variable LOGGEROPTS in /etc/courier/authlib/authdaemonrc is apparently ignored. Idealy, I would like courier to log to syslog rather than maillog. But no matter what facility I set it to, it logs to maillog, as if option is not even set.

BTW: I can set LOGGEROPTS to anything, meaning LOGGEROPTS="4q3kojrfakf" won't prevent courier from starting normally AND continue logging to maillog.

Any ideas?
