|
|
I live in a apartment complex close to my college. To set up internet in my room, it require a one-time logon to some proxy service ( ntc.com ). How it works, you open of a website, any website, google.com, gentoo.com, etc, and it automatically redirects you to the login page. Once you log on, your good to go and dont have to worry about it ever again... untill your IP changes.
I am on the liveCD right now, and I have loged on to whatever proxy service I am required, and I am good to go. However, If I restart into my gentoo system (with no X server, so no internet browser to enter username/password), and boot from my HD, I cannot reach the internet because I have to log onto the NTC proxy again. So My question, how can I keep my current internet settings on the livecd, and move them to my system so that my IP stays what it is, and doesnt change on boot? I have already tried copying over (from the LiveCD environment) "/etc/resolv.conf" to "/mnt/gentoo/resolv.conf" but it doesnt seem to work. Could It be that I have "config_eth0=("dhcpcd")" in my net config? Im open for anything. (I have never had this problem before, it just happend that they upgraded something in my area so everybody has to log back in or something, and this time its not sticking) _________________ "WARNING: you may LOL"

Hi.
You should try running the following on your chroot under the live-cd:
When you boot into your system, run links http://www.<anything>. It should let you authenticate and then connect to the Internet. Does it work? _________________ Jorge.

Ok Quick awnser is no, it doesnt work.
However, when I type "links http://www.google.com" it does redirect me to the proxy page. However, when I trpe in my username/password and press [enter] on the submit button, it does nothing. It acts like it loads for a few secconds, and then basically reopens the page (the cursor goes back to the top of the page and my password dissapears). Any ideas? _________________ "WARNING: you may LOL"

In that case, your ISP doesn't allow you to login through a text browser.
If you really need to use FF or konqueror just to do that, you'll need to emerge X, your favorite DE and the browser under the live-cd. _________________ Jorge.

No problems. You just will have to use the chroot until you finish emerging all those packages. _________________ Jorge.
