I just upgraded to the newest version of rhythmbox and i get and error saying the support for the mp3 plug in for gstreamer doesn't exist.

Now I went to check to make sure mad was installed, which it is -
Code:

*  media-plugins/gst-plugins-mad
      Latest version available: 0.10.3
      Latest version installed: 0.10.3
      Size of files: 591 kB
      Homepage:      http://gstreamer.freedesktop.org/
      Description:   plugin for gstreamer
      License:       GPL-2

So I did a debug message for the mad lib and it came out as this -
Code:

 $ GST_DEBUG=GST_PLUGIN_LOADING:5 gst-inspect-0.10 /usr/lib/gstreamer-0.10/libgstmad.so
LOG   (0x50b7f0 - 0:00:00.000675000)   GST_PLUGIN_LOADING(12753) gstplugin.c(172):_gst_plugin_register_static: queueing static plugin "staticelements" for loading later on

The only thing i can think of is that its my rhythmbox -
Code:

[ebuild   R   ] media-sound/rhythmbox-0.9.6  USE="aac -avahi -daap dbus -debug flac -hal -howl -ipod -libnotify -lirc mad -musicbrainz python -tagwriting -vorbis" 0 kB

Code:

*  media-sound/rhythmbox
      Latest version available: 0.9.6
      Latest version installed: 0.9.6
      Size of files: 3,056 kB
      Homepage:      http://www.rhythmbox.org/

I had this same problem a while ago. I didnt ever get around to fixing it, however. Have you tried using xine insted of gstreamer? ( I think that was my problem )

I experienced the same problem. I updated to gst-plugins-mad-0.10.4-r1 and mp3 files now play fine. *shrugs*

That worked for me too.

This was all I did:
Code:
echo "media-plugins/gst-plugins-mad ~x86" >> /etc/portage/package.keywords
emerge -1av media-plugins/gst-plugins-mad
