I have just downloaded the LiveCD iso and burnt it to a CD. When I try to boot from the CD it acts as if the CD is not bootable. I know that my CDROM and Bios support CDROM booting as I have booted from my WinXP cd countless times. Is there something I've overlooked that I should have done?

Thanks,

How did you burn the CD?
Check the CD and its contents.

I burned the iso using Alcohol 120%. When I open the CD, there are two subdirectories and livecd.cloop. I don't profess to know the ins and outs of linux, but shouldn't there be more than one file in the root of the CD if it's bootable?

I just checked my own Install CD.
If you have just downloaded the stage1 CD there is livecd.cloop /gentoo and /isolinux.
Sorry, i´m not familiar with alcohol of that high proof

The boot kernel and related files are in the /isolinux directory. If your mainboard is relatively new it should boot. I do have problems booting it on an old pentium box with early boot from cd bios.

You can try smartbootmanager from floppy to direct it your cd or use the knoppix cd to do the install from.

So I found this thread while searching for an answer to my own question, and I thought I'd bump it up with a solution.

Using Alcohol 120, I was unable to get my burned LiveCD to boot. It looked fine, and I could browse through the directories, but no joy on booting. The final solution that did it for me was selecting RAW SAO as the burn method (I had tried DAO/SAO and RAW DAO previously), and slowing down the burn speed.

I hope this helps someone out there.
