|
|
here is the deal,
when I'm trying to connect to my msn account under linux in my university it keeps disconnecting and reconnecting while, icq is stable,
when I switch to XP it is stable, at home, it is stable both on XP and linux.
my first thought was it my university is blocking the port but it works well under XP, so I guess that it is probably an kopete related problem in supporting the msn protocol, I run version 3.5.5-r2 on an amd64
any hints on when is the problem and if it can be solved? (and how of course) |

It works perfectly fine for me and I haven't seen any disconnection issues on my three MSN accounts. Just be sure you aren't logging in from elsewhere as MSN does not support the same account being logged into from two different places. (Newer login will overtake the older.)
Edit: I'm using the latest kopete marked ~amd64. |

try to enable "use http method" under settings -> configure -> account -> msn -> connection _________________ Never argue with an idiot. They will only pull you down to their level, then beat you with experience. |

like I've said, under XP it work both from home and the university.

I had the same issue and using the above instructions allowed me to connect. MSN must have changed their protocol in some manner.
Using Kopete-0.12.3 with KDE-3.5.5. |

No, because then everyone would have to use HTTP if they did.. and I'm still able to connect and everything just fine. |

Try getting a newer version of kopete if you aren't already. I've noticed once inawhile msn or yahoo changes their protocol somehow and which makes it so you can't connect. Installing a newer version of kopete usually fixes it. |

I was struggling with this problem and this thread has given me a tip as to what changed since it worked.
The check next to "Use HTTP method" must NOT be checked. Then everything appears to work fine |

Okay I'm having the same issue here.. It connects but then a sec. after it disconnects..
Happens both at my amd64 and my x86 systems, and only using kopete.. tried using gaim, and it connects fine..
Dunno if it's related to this, but whenever i try to play Warcraft 3 or Diablo 2 through wine, it also loses its connection after some seconds.. at Warcraft it happens as soon as I join a game, then I get the d/c message.. at Diablo 2 it hardly connects.. it's like its trying to connect but something goes wrong.
I have both pc's in different cities, it's not a connection problem. Both are updated, so it must a update that screwed things up, have no idea what it is though. And yes, i tried cleaning up my iptables.. no luck.
Well that's it, i'll try messing around things here and see what happens. |

Okay, still got nothing... tried everything i can think of...
kopete just won't connect...
error message it gives: "kopete (msn): WARNING: [void MSNSocket::slotSocketError(int)] Error: 17 (remote host closed connection)"
Then, after a while, it says:
"Very strange! got a DCOPReplyFailed opcode, but we were not waiting for a reply!"
Have no idea what's going on.. i'm using last kopete's version on tree. |

I was experiencing the same problem with kopete-3.5.5-r2, connecting and after few seconds disconnecting.
After playing a bit with the parameters I found a solution.
solution
In Properties > MSN Settings tab, unset the option "Send client information" to OFF.
I suppose the M$ servers log you out or do something that causes a logout if your client is not M$ approved...
I have 2 MSN accounts and both work at the same time now and don't logout anymore after some seconds.
FYI: I use the HTTP method. _________________ "Nobody is perfect. So... who wants to be Nobody?!" |

I have a very similar problem...
Several times in the last few days kopete has simply refused to connect to MSN.
I type in my password and I get "the server has actively refused the connection". So I tried some of the suggestions above. Changing to "http method" seems to let me connect, but every 30 seconds or so I get disconnected and have to disconnect again. I have "send client info" set to off.
I don't understand what has changed...I did a fairly extensive system update recently but I don't see why Kopete should be affected. I don't think its a networking issue because when I boot into windows I can use MSN fine. Finally, I don't think MSN has updated their protocol because when I am at work I can use gaim to connect to MSN, but here at gome gaim refuses to connect...
Any ideas? This is maddening!
Code: | [ebuild R ] kde-base/kopete-3.5.5-r2 USE="arts connectionstatus crypt nowlistening ssl xinerama xscreensaver -addbookmarks -alias -autoreplace -contactnotes -debug -gadu -groupwise -highlight -history -irc -jingle -kdeenablefinal -kdehiddenvisibility -latex -netmeeting -sametime -slp -sms -statistics -texteffect -translator -webpresence -winpopup -yahoo" |
Do you think perhaps I should change what USE flags I compiled it with? [/code] |
