The title says it all. I believe this is a Gnome issue becouse I can mount in the terminal, I can format it in the terminal. I can read it in the terminal, I can write to it in the terminal....
But I cant do anything with it in Gnome. If I open the Floppy Formatter, It starts the format, then craps out half way through. If I try to mount a floppy it craps out. I'm stuck. I dont know what to do.
I've already checked to make sure I am in the floppy group. I have already checked to see if I'm in the plugdev group. I already checked to see if my user has permissions to /media/floppy folder.
I'm stuck, any advice? |

Glad to see you took it as the humor it was intended to be.
You might try getting into the media preferences app and disabling automounting of floppy media (if it is enabled). Other than that, I'm afraid I don't have any other (helpful) suggestions. You might try searching (use google with site:forums.gentoo.org) for "gnome floppy hal ivman" and see if anything useful turns up. _________________

Thank you. Great advise And useful beyond what I asked for too. Thank you much
I still havent figured out what is wrong, but I've figured out how to outomount the floppy anyhow. It seems that mounting devices in gnome is handled by gnome-vfs. Apparrently that is what I'm having problems with, tho I havent figured out what the problem is exactly, or how to fix it. |

One step closer at least. Good luck on your quest. _________________

If it makes you feel better, the same thing happens on KDE. I cannot work with the floppy but from a terminal. No chance through KDE Media Manager. |
