|

When I turn on my laptop it goes to a gdm login. From there I can log in or use the other terminals. Now, when I use /proc/acpi calls in those terminals everything works fine. But when I log into gnome it will load a couple of the modules, and when it get's to battstat it will freeze my computer.. Every terminal freezes, and I have to hold the power button to reset it.
I compiled ACPI into my kernel, and my bios is able to support it. So why does battstat freeze me every time? If I disable the battstat applet, everything works fine. |

Doesn't freeze me here, but sucks up all my CPU and makes the computer basically unusable.
Perhaps this is what you're seeing on a much higher level?
Anyone else see this? |

This used to happen to me on my laptop with the KDE battery monitor. I just had to disable it in the Control Center. Not sure what was going on. _________________ Meh. |

Me too, it was the same with Gnome. It freeze at boot time or after 3-4 hours of use...
I had think that it was the ACPI so I disabled it for a long time. One day, I reenable ACPI and found everything working fine if I dont use the battery applet from Gnome.
So, try disabling your applet and try the gkrellm applet, which work more fine (it lookup sometimes but it's very rare).
To put off your battery applet, just start with acpi=off as kernel option. |
