I want to throttle my own p2p traffic during certain times of the day, so that a) I get good speeds with online games, general browsing and whatnot, when I'm actually trying to use the connection -- and b) so that my ISP doesn't get irritated and decide to start doing it for me (they measure peak-time usage when deciding whether to kick in their fair use policy)

I'd like a script that throttles incoming traffic down to 75K/sec on the ports I know I'm going to be sucking down bittorrent files on, which cron loads at 6pm and unloads at midnight each day. Can anyone point me to a readymade script, or a simple howto?

None of the clients that I can find that run on a headless server will allow me to set different bandwidth limits for different times of the day. Or if they do, the documentation is not good enough to tell me how to do so.

Thanks for the wiki link, I was looking for 'throttling', not 'shaping' and not getting any hits.
