|
|
I am rebuilding a ThinkPad laptop that I used a couple of years ago,
all of the hardware worked fine back then. I have reinstalled Gentoo
with 2006.1, and done all of the updates. Now I can not get
my Netgear WG511 to connect to the router. The WG511
appears to receive, but I'm not sure it is ever transmitting.
The router never shows the WG511 as a connected device.
The WG511 firmware is uploaded ok, but dhcpdc always times
out. I am using dhcpdc-2.05-r1, I have also tried pump-0.8.24, same
results.
/var/log/messages shows the Prism54 firmware is uploaded:

iwconfig shows, the following while waiting for dhcpcd to get its address assignment:

/etc/conf.d/wireless:
Code: |
#channel_eth1="7" [Changing this value changes the channel, but never to this value.??]
config_T22CDAD=( "dhcpcd" )
dhcpcd_T22CDAD="-t 120 -d"
essid_eth1="T22CDAD"
key_T22CDAD="1111-2222-3333-4444-5555-6666-77 enc open"
|
The router is a:
Code: |
WGR614v4 Firmware Version V5.0_07
|
I did try a different router, same results. I don't have a different wireless card to try.
Is it time to buy a new network card, or do I have something setup wrong?
I suspect the latter because changing 'channel_eth1='7'" changes the channel, but never to channel '7'.
I have set the router to match the channel that /etc/inid./net.eth1 says, usually ten, when it starts up.
Why does the channel setting not appear to work? |

If you are using the in-kernel driver, try using the out-of-kernel module (emerge prism54 if I remember correctly). If you are using the out of kernel driver, try the in-kernel one. It could be a screwed up driver. |

net-wireless/prism54-firmware is the file that gets uploaded into the card,
to my understanding it is not a 'driver' per se. The 'help' in the Kernel
indicates both the firmware and the kernel driver are needed.
dmesg shows that the firmware is being uploaded ok.
This firmware file is the same one that I was using in the past,
when it was working.
I am using gentoo-2.6.18-r3 for my kernel. |

I know that, I'm saying use a different version of prism54 with the same firmware. |
