I haven't tested it much, but I followed the WIKI article:
http://gentoo-wiki.com/HARDWARE_rt2400_and_rt2500
and gave it a go in Kismet and it worked fine.
That said, I haven't actually connected to an AP yet so I can't comment on WEP, WPA, etc.
One thing to note is that as the package is masked you need to add an entry to
Code: | /etc/portage/package.keywords |
It took a little messing around, but here is what I put into /etc/portage/package.keywords that allowed the emerge for me:
Code: | ~net-wireless/rt2570-1.1.0_beta2 ~* |
then
Code: | emerge -av =net-wireless/rt2570-1.1.0_beta2 |
and then:
interface is rausb0.
Enjoy !!! _________________ If you always do what you've always done - you'll always get what you always got... |

I have the wusb54gc up and running and make this post using it.
See:https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-485938-highlight-wusb54gc.html
It uses (or it is compatible) with http://www.ralinktech.com/supp-1.htm RT2571 and rt2671, so I wonder about the differences to rt2570. Maybe minor maybe major
Does somebody know the difference between the two drivers: rt73usb and rt2570
I think both are for the same hardware, rt73usb is from the rt2x00 project and rt2570 is from ralinktech.
I have tryed out the RT2500 but it did not find my wusb54, maybe I gave a try to RT2570 but it does not emerge on my computer.
rt73usb works fine to go in Internet, to lock what's up using Wireshark.
With some tricks I also have managed that it works with Kismet:
I added in /etc/kismet.conf something like this: source=rt2500,wlan0,your_username including a wrong but kismet accepted driver. The wlan driver must not occupied by the regular LAN connection so:
ifconfig wlan0 down to make it available
iwconfig wlan0 mode monitor to go into monitor mode
iwconfig to verify
