mythbackend is running on the same computer as mythfrontend, but the frontend keeps complaining that it can't connect to the backend.

| Chances are either the backend hasn't been started yet, or it failed when starting and has since stopped. Check your backend's logs (/var/log/mythtv/mythbackend.log) and you'll probably find it's reporting that something died along the way. |

I can confirm this!
Probably mythbackend won't start because it don't has the correct rights on a file/directory. |

Not sure where you're at on this, but if logs are about permissions, a good place to start is simply connecting to the database using sqladmin and verifying everything works.
