I have successfully configured and compiled my kernel manually and have gentoo running a 12" Power Book g4.
I am interesed in using genkernel to compile my kernel as I believe that I may get better device implentation and support for my hardware from the get go, but I get an error message - Failed to compile the "zImage.init.rd" target.
Can anyone explain this error message ? |

Genkernel really won't get you better "device implementation". It's for creating LiveCD kernels and for reproducing those kernels on your own machine. The best way to setup the kernel is to use 'make pmac32_defconfig' and tweak the config from there.
Anyway, if you really want to stick with genkernel, try just using genkernel all instead of using the zimage target. It's currently broken and I haven't gotten around to fixing it or changing the handbook yet. _________________ Gentoo PPC FAQ: http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/gentoo-ppc-faq.xml |

Thanks for the reply. I did use make pmac32_defconfig, which got me up and running. It's nice to know that I'm on the right track. |
