|
|
Hi there.
I installed my system to have full unicode support (and native language). What I did :
* selected the good options in the kernel (default utf8 in nls)
* the locales generated
* the /etc/env.d/02locale file with proper values (fr_FR.utf8 everywhere)
* the whole system with unicode and nls flags
* my filenames are in unicode
* my rc.conf says UNICODE="yes"
* my terminal font is "terminus"
Here is what i've got, in console or in a uxterm :
typing "ls" in a directory,
* japanese characters are replaced by weird dotted squares
* it goes the same for hangul (corean) characters
* ... whereas icelandic characters are perfectly displayed
but if i type "ls | less", everything is perfectly displayed !
moreover, if I ssh my machine from a computer with good unicode support, everything works like a charm.
I tried to add the cjk flag to my system, but it is no better.
And another thing : extended characters in french man pages are broken (the usual way, with two weird characters instead of one, so i guess it's something else)
Hope someone will have an idea about all that ...
take care

Maybe it's just a font problem. You say it works when sshing the machine, but in uxterm or console it doesn't. Just try to change the consolefonts.
Further: Are you using Framebuffer? Which font do you have in your (u)xterm? _________________

He said it already: Terminus (which should support Unicode as far as I know)
I have the same problem btw. and I tried nearly every font on my system (and I even have unifont installed which *has* to know Unicode) but still no go
There has to be something we are missing ...

EDIT: I should add that I use rxvt-unicode ...

Just because a font supports unicode, doesn't necessarily mean that it includes all unicode characters in all languages.
Nevertheless, if less works on the same terminal, then it is probably something to do with the application. hmm. |

True - if we are talking about *one* font ... but *all* fonts I've tested (even the ones which proclaim to display Unicode properly) don't do that! Hmmmm ...

Odd. I never noticed it, but I've got the same problem, 'cept the Japanese doesn't show up at all. It works perfectly in a kde terminal though. |

In a way I'm happy to see I'm not alone to have this problem. |

I would be even happier if I'd see someone *NOT* having this problem |
