|
|
Hi there guys.
I really don't know what tha hell is this, but... My CC now segfaults randomly.
I tried compiling my kernel, with the config i used before, but now it's just crashing!!
Anyone seen this:
Code: | CC [M] sound/core/seq/oss/seq_oss_event.o
CC [M] sound/core/seq/oss/seq_oss_rw.o
CC [M] sound/core/seq/oss/seq_oss_synth.o
cc1: internal compiler error: Segmentation fault
Please submit a full bug report,
with preprocessed source if appropriate.
See <URL:http://bugs.gentoo.org/> for instructions.
The bug is not reproducible, so it is likely a hardware or OS problem.
make[4]: *** [sound/core/seq/oss/seq_oss_synth.o] Error 1
make[3]: *** [sound/core/seq/oss] Error 2
make[2]: *** [sound/core/seq] Error 2
make[1]: *** [sound/core] Error 2
make: *** [sound] Error 2

And another example:
Code: | LD drivers/ata/built-in.o
CC [M] drivers/ata/libata-core.o
drivers/ata/libata-core.c: In function 'ata_pci_device_do_resume':
drivers/ata/libata-core.c:5943: warning: ignoring return value of 'pci_enable_device', declared with attribute warn_unused_result
drivers/ata/libata-core.c: In function 'ata_bus_reset':
drivers/ata/libata-core.c:2505: internal compiler error: Segmentation fault
Please submit a full bug report,
with preprocessed source if appropriate.
See <URL:http://bugs.gentoo.org/> for instructions.
The bug is not reproducible, so it is likely a hardware or OS problem.
make[2]: *** [drivers/ata/libata-core.o] Error 1
make[1]: *** [drivers/ata] Error 2
make: *** [drivers] Error 2

The error often changes from file to file. It's not the source. This IS weird.
here goes my emerge info:

oh my god....
I had done a bios update.
Now i've done a bios downgrade... and CC went back to sanity.
What can this be? what newer functions in BIOS make the compiler unstable??

One theory is that the bios upgrade made some hardware unstable, and that's the reason... ? _________________ Beerhazard | Nobelium | VIm | Perl | Ruby |

In nearly all cases, random gcc segfaults are the result of faulty or wrongly configured hardware - broken RAM or CPU, wrong timings, overclocking etc... So, the fact that this may be caused by a BIOS update is not overly surprising (maybe you can get rid of the problem by adjusting the settings of your updated BIOS). |

Thanks guys.
I get it now.. I just didn't expect such a bad bios version from DFI.
I have a difficult system by itself: A DFI LanParty SLI-DR Mobo, with some 1GB Geil 1W, which are pc3200 and pc4000 at the same time.
These twins perform 1.5-2-2-5 @ 400mhz and 2-2-2-5 @ 500mhz, like said in their original box.
However, i was using a modded Bios by Oscar Wu (cheers mate), which worked perfectly.
The new DFI official bios, does NOT. My rams work ONLY at 2-2-3-5 @400mhz, and yesterday when my compiler segfault, i had them at 2-2-2-5@400mhz (like they should)
So now i came back to the modded bios, SIGSEGV disappeared, but my rams don't do what they're supposed to.. I have to keep downgrading till i find that OscarWu's version.
Thanks again guys,
See us!
