Hello everyone,
I have mozilla -1.2.1-r5 and I am having problems getting java to work. Sometimes, it just plain doesn't work, and other times it actually crashes Mozilla.
I have followed the directions on this post: https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?t=22759&highlight= and I have read this post:
https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?t=47544&highlight=mozilla+java
I have recompiled everything mentioned therein (which took quite a while, I might add), and still no joy. I have tried using java-config to switch between j2sdk, jdk and blackdown. None of it helped.
Can someone please explain the steps/logic to getting these to work?
Thanks!

Do you use Java 1.4.1? If so, I really wonder what's the problem.
I installed Blackdown JDK 1.4.1. The advantage against the very long procedure for Mozilla 1.1, Blackdown works out of the box because of the gcc 3.x support.
You should check that Blackdown is your System VM. To verify it, you can enter java -version at the command line:
Code: | # java -version
Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build Blackdown-1.4.1-01)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build Blackdown-1.4.1-01, mixed mode)
|
If you don't see this, something's wrong. Maybe a "env-update && source /etc/profile" will help?
Another place to look for is the plugin directory (/usr/lib/mozilla/plugins). Usualy the symlink for the plugin is set by the ebuilds. You should see (at least)
Code: | javaplugin_oji.so -> /opt/blackdown-jdk-1.4.1/jre/plugin/i386/mozilla/javaplugin_oji.so

I had to download the blackdown java vm that was compiled for gcc 3.2. The one that was installed by gentoo never worked for me. I then added the soft link as described previously. |
