Use DRI with Nvidia or not? [Solved]

I am confused since i find diffrent instructions on how i should configure Xorg.conf when using nvidia-drivers. Some sources say i should disable the DRI-modules, some say i should activate it? What's the right way?

I am using:

2.6.19-gentoo-r1
x11-base/xorg-x11-7.1
x11-drivers/nvidia-drivers-1.0.9631
a Geforce 5900 XT

Two sources that say i should disable DRI:

http://digg.com/linux_unix/Finally_NVIDIA_drivers_for_linux_with_AIGLX_support_released -> quote: "and nVidia drivers do not support DRI"

But lots of other sources say i should enable it.

My xorg.conf has the dri module commented out, and my nvidia drivers work fine, with direct rendering.

Who says you should enable it?

Nvidia has its own DRI interface, and does not need the linux DRI extension at all. That does not mean nvidia does not do direct rendering, it has a direct rendering interface, but its own, the xorg dri interface is not used nor needed, though usually it does not harm either to have it installed.

So, all the dri related stuff in your xorg.conf is not needed when you use Driver "nvidia"

EDIT, that does not mean you cant use DRI with an nvidia card. I am not sure, but it might be possible using the "nv" driver, of course, performance will really suck.

Strange....i did that yesterday right after posting the reply. I wonder what went wrong there....
