I am about to buy a new laptop. The one I want (Asus A8JS) uses Nvidia Go 7700. Looking in Nvidia supported hardware list, all 7700's are missing:
Quote: | ...
GeForce 7600 GS 0x0392
GeForce 7600 GT 0x0391
GeForce 7800 GS 0x0093
GeForce 7800 GS 0x00F5
GeForce 7800 GT 0x0092
...
GeForce Go 7400 0x01D8
GeForce Go 7600 0x0398
GeForce Go 7800 0x0098
GeForce Go 7800 GTX 0x0099
... |
But, on the other hand, starting X with verbose=5, gives the following in the log:
Quote: | ...
GeForce 7600 GS, GeForce 7300 GT, GeForce 7600 LE, GeForce 7300 GT,
GeForce Go 7700, GeForce Go 7600, GeForce Go 7600 GT,
Quadro NVS 300M, GeForce Go 7900 SE, Quadro FX 550M, Quadro FX 560,
... |
...which all makes me confused. Does Nvidia Go 7700 have Linux drivers or does it not?

NVidia supports the binary non-open driver for nvidia that seems to support all newer chips.
They also produce all-in-one windoze drivers.
My guess is, you'll be fine. Give it a try, and if it doesn't work, i'll give you a full refund for the amount you paid for this message ; ) _________________ Configuring a Firewall? Try my iptables configuration
