|
|
I am really missing Gentoo right now, ever since making the switch from a 64-bit athlon system with Gentoo to the Apple MacBook Pro. I'd like to get it on there.
However, neither of the two Gentoo on MacBook (Pro) wikis that I've read discuss the possibility of installing Gentoo on an external hard drive. I'd really rather not go through the process of re-installing OSX because there is no easy way to immediately get back all configurations and software installations - and this seems to be the only way to be able to actually partition the drive to fit both Gentoo and OSX.
So, is there any way to install Gentoo on an external hard disk and still boot it? Perhaps by not using Bootcamp somehow?
Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance.

I think, it is possible.
When my Ipod is connected, Refit propose to me to boot on an external disk.
But I cannot say to you more |

It appears to me that Gentoo requires some sort of BIOS emulation, or something like that, to be installed on the MacBook. Is the case the same with the MacBook Pro?
It also appears that rEFIt can boot from a firewire external drive (my external can do both USB and Firewire). If I simply install a bootloader like elilo or grub or something like that, will it work? Anybody with installing Gentoo on a MacBook Pro, I'd really appreciate some advice here!
If all goes as planned, I hope to document my experiences in a wiki specifically for the MacBook Pro users here. I'd love to achieve this goal.
Thanks in advance.
